  1. Reading, Pennsylvania (October 5, 2012)— In the second qualifying session of the 28th Annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, Rookie of the Year candidate Alexis DeJoria, pilot of the Kalitta Motorsports Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry Funny Car, raced her way to a career-best run of 4.032-seconds at 319.07-miles per hour- extraordinary numbers for not only a rookie driver, but a seasoned veteran as well.

Proving that she is a powerful force to be reckoned with, DeJoria aka La Patrόna, driver of the high-speed Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry, currently holds the quickest elapsed time of all Funny Car Rookie of the Year candidates this season, and is the second quickest Rookie in 1,000-foot track Funny Car history.

With ideal weather conditions and a near-perfect track surface, Team Patrón knew that Friday night was their opportunity to show everyone that the black-and-green (and pink) machine was capable of running competitive numbers. The Patrόn hotrod, decked out in hot pink Patrόn bees and eye-catching pink parachutes in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, had recently undergone a transformation following the NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis, Missouri. After a string of several frustrating runs, crew chief Del Worsham, made the decision to overhaul the fuel flopper and stay in St. Louis an additional day to test. Worsham combined the current tuning setup with a new rigid frame chassis and a Toyota Camry body that the team used earlier this season, and was extremely pleased with the outcome. Feeling good from their test session, Team Patrόn came into the Reading race armed with confidence. According to DeJoria, “Testing was awesome and we were all just so excited to debut our new chassis this weekend and couldn’t wait to run it in competition.”

“Conditions were excellent to run fast numbers tonight. If you’re going to break records or run a personal best, Q2 at Maple Grove is the prime time to do that. We really went for it in the second round. It was a little squirrely leaving the line, but I just drove the heck out of that car, and thankfully it stuck. I knew it was a good run, but when the guys radioed in and told me what I ran, I was so excited- we killed it out there! I’m so proud of my guys, this is the morale boost we needed. The weather conditions tomorrow are supposed to be even better and we are so excited and extremely confident going into day two of qualifying.”

Alexis DeJoria and the Kalitta Motorsports Tequila Patrόn Toyota Camry Funny Car team will start the third round of qualifying tomorrow in the number three spot. Funny Car qualifying begins at 12PM EST.
